Dorset Socialists meeting‘They are Us’. Contesting Islamophobia – learning from Christchurch.

Saturday 4 May 2019 1.30pmThe Colliton Club, Colliton House, Colliton Park, Dorchester, Dorset DT1 1XJ

Speaker: Lynne Hubbard
The rise of Islamophobia continues relentlessly. The consequences are clear – abhorrent acts such as the massacre of Muslims in Christchurch, New Zealand. Last week Lynne Hubbard and her family visited the Al Nour Mosque in Christchurch with a message of support signed by over 100 people from Dorchester, Weymouth and Portland. These included participants in the solidarity vigil at St Peter’s Church in Dorchester and activists from Stand Up To Racism who successfully contested the involvement of the fascist Britain First organisation in our local elections.  Lynne reports on her reception at the mosque, the movement of solidarity with Muslims in New Zealand and the lessons for anti-racists in the UK.
